Fairy Fruit
You came to me bleeding dye and belching butterflies
And I asked you what you've eaten, where you've strayed
While you stare toward that empty yard and murmur:
The shouts are melting in the rain, in the falling sky!
I'll wear the words I speak, bitter, salty, sweet...I'll wait
For the tongues of angels to drink me clean.
It rains! They are pouring colors on the trees, the grass;
All the broken wishes are pollinating the forest,
Blooming from my lips.
The squirrels flung fairy fruits at me all day.
Never are these sweet for those logical beasts
But I'll lick the broken rinds of dreams.
I am belching the indigestible hopes of caterpillars
All the ichor trails that we cannot swallow, that fruit
Bubbles from my lips.
Yards are never empty.

Not sure whether the squirrels are trying to help or not. Your thoughts?

"I am belching the indigestiblle hopes of caterpillars" that is one beautiful mouth full! I love this magical fairy tale Chrissa! I think the squirrels love to help all they can. π
ReplyDeletePure nectar, Chrissa . . . full of goodies . . . I'll wait for the tongues of angels to drink me clean . . . love that. :)
ReplyDeleteI hope I can write like this one day absolute picture language.
"The squirrels flung fairy fruits at me all day.
ReplyDeleteNever are these sweet for those logical beasts
But I'll lick the broken rinds of dreams."
Absolutely my favourite lines
Thanks for dropping my sumie Sunday Chrissa
Muchπ΅ππ΅love
"I'll wait for the tongues of angels to drink me clean." What a great line. Love the squirrels flinging fairy fruits. Wonderful, Chrissa!
ReplyDeleteI do love to learn a new word, ichor was new to me, with the squirrel you introduced a playful element that made it less ominous.
ReplyDeleteThe picture is really distressing for me, reminds me of silence of the lambs, but the coloring make it worse.
Such stunning imagery in this one, Chrissa π especially like; "All the broken wishes are pollinating the forest, Blooming from my lips."π
ReplyDeleteOh, too many lines of wonder in this for me to single out a few. Simply amazing writing!!
ReplyDeleteAnother awesome piece. Fantastically imaged and visual lines. Love it!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and interesting metaphors.

So many clever lines here. Enjoyed so much.
ReplyDeleteSo much chaos, it's like a bad trip with some fun in it.
ReplyDeleteI think the squirrels are just doing what they know to do. You can't ascribe malice directly to them. The subject was merely in the way. Though I am intrigued as to why they were there. Fairy fruit can be a trap. It seems that there was enough juice on the rind to give a glimpse of faerie. And that knowledge comes with a cost.
ReplyDeleteThe squirrels are just being squirrels (with access to fairy fruit), I think. But this speaker? This speaker will turn all that flung fruit (seeds and rinds and dreams and all) into blooms.
ReplyDeleteThis is a miracle of imagery.
I like the squirrels being squirrels. Saucy rascals!
ReplyDeleteSquirrels don't inhabit Australia, so I am fascinated to learn they are logical beasts. They seem to me as magical and other-worldly as fairy fruits and angels and all the rest of this astounding world you've created. Expect the unexpected, I say! And don't look for explanations.
ReplyDeleteA virtual feast for the senses.. Sweet fruits interspersed with sharp thorny visions- in combination, they are unable to be smoothly digested.. Very well done.
ReplyDelete"Broken wishes are pollinating the forest", a great line. There is not enough space to walk and smell the flowers.
ReplyDeleteWhooo, I hope you brought a hit for everybody. The squirrels are noted scallawags and could be helping...or not. It depends. On something. I'll ask them, I've got a whole troupe of gray, brown and black ones in my yard. They like all the trees.
ReplyDeleteI wish we had squirrels here, they sound so cute
